Glassbox Ltd (TLV:GLBX) shares have continued their recent momentum with a 26% gain in the last month alone. Looking back a bit further, it's encouraging to see the stock is up 26% in the last year.

Even after such a large jump in price, Glassbox may still be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 2.1x, considering almost half of all companies in the Software industry in Israel have P/S ratios greater than 2.6x and even P/S higher than 6x aren't out of the ordinary. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

How Glassbox Has Been Performing

We'd have to say that with no tangible growth over the last year, Glassbox's revenue has been unimpressive. One possibility is that the P/S is low because investors think this benign revenue growth rate will likely underperform the broader industry in the near future. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

Although there are no analyst estimates available for Glassbox, take a look at this free data-rich visualisation to see how the company stacks up on earnings, revenue and cash flow.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The Low P/S Ratio?

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as low as Glassbox's is when the company's growth is on track to lag the industry.

If we review the last year of revenue, the company posted a result that saw barely any deviation from a year ago. Although pleasingly revenue has lifted 108% in aggregate from three years ago, notwithstanding the last 12 months. Accordingly, shareholders will be pleased, but also have some questions to ponder about the last 12 months.

Weighing that recent medium-term revenue trajectory against the broader industry's one-year forecast for expansion of 27% shows it's about the same on an annualised basis.

With this in consideration, we find it intriguing that Glassbox's P/S falls short of its industry peers. It may be that most investors are not convinced the company can maintain recent growth rates.

The Final Word

Despite Glassbox's share price climbing recently, its P/S still lags most other companies. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

The fact that Glassbox currently trades at a low P/S relative to the industry is unexpected considering its recent three-year growth is in line with the wider industry forecast. There could be some unobserved threats to revenue preventing the P/S ratio from matching the company's performance. revenue trends suggest that the risk of a price decline is low, investors appear to perceive a possibility of revenue volatility in the future.
