If You Had Bought Almogim Holdings (TLV:ALMA) Shares A Year Ago You'd Have Earned 74% Returns
The simplest way to invest in stocks is to buy exchange traded funds. But if you pick the right individual stocks, you could make more than that. For example, the Almogim Holdings Ltd. (TLV:ALMA) share price is up 74% in the last year, clearly besting the market return of around 56% (not including dividends). So that should have shareholders smiling. We'll need to follow Almogim Holdings for a while to get a better sense of its share price trend, since it hasn't been listed for particularly long.

To paraphrase Benjamin Graham: Over the short term the market is a voting machine, but over the long term it's a weighing machine. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.
Over the last twelve months, Almogim Holdings actually shrank its EPS by 52%.
Given the share price gain, we doubt the market is measuring progress with EPS. Since the change in EPS doesn't seem to correlate with the change in share price, it's worth taking a look at other metrics.
Almogim Holdings' revenue actually dropped 5.8% over last year. So using a snapshot of key business metrics doesn't give us a good picture of why the market is bidding up the stock.

What about the Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?
We've already covered Almogim Holdings' share price action, but we should also mention its total shareholder return (TSR). The TSR attempts to capture the value of dividends (as if they were reinvested) as well as any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings offered to shareholders. We note that Almogim Holdings' TSR, at 80% is higher than its share price return of 74%. When you consider it hasn't been paying a dividend, this data suggests shareholders have benefitted from a spin-off, or had the opportunity to acquire attractively priced shares in a discounted capital raising.
A Different Perspective
Almogim Holdings shareholders should be happy with the total gain of 80% over the last twelve months. That's better than the more recent three month gain of 15%, implying that share price has plateaued recently. It seems likely the market is waiting on fundamental developments with the business before pushing the share price higher (or lower). It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Almogim Holdings better, we need to consider many other factors. Like risks, for instance. Every company has them, and we've spotted 3 warning signs for Almogim Holdings (of which 1 makes us a bit uncomfortable!) you should know about.
