Gogox Holdings Limited's (HKG:2246) Stock Retreats 29% But Revenues Haven't Escaped The Attention Of Investors

Gogox Holdings Limited (HKG:2246) shares have retraced a considerable 29% in the last month, reversing a fair amount of their solid recent performance. The recent drop completes a disastrous twelve months for shareholders, who are sitting on a 68% loss during that time.

Although its price has dipped substantially, there still wouldn't be many who think Gogox Holdings' price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.3x is worth a mention when the median P/S in Hong Kong's Logistics industry is similar at about 0.2x. While this might not raise any eyebrows, if the P/S ratio is not justified investors could be missing out on a potential opportunity or ignoring looming disappointment.

How Has Gogox Holdings Performed Recently?

For instance, Gogox Holdings' receding revenue in recent times would have to be some food for thought. It might be that many expect the company to put the disappointing revenue performance behind them over the coming period, which has kept the P/S from falling. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The P/S?

Gogox Holdings' P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the industry.

Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 2.6%. However, a few very strong years before that means that it was still able to grow revenue by an impressive 42% in total over the last three years. Although it's been a bumpy ride, it's still fair to say the revenue growth recently has been more than adequate for the company.

It's interesting to note that the rest of the industry is similarly expected to grow by 14% over the next year, which is fairly even with the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.

With this in consideration, it's clear to see why Gogox Holdings' P/S matches up closely to its industry peers. Apparently shareholders are comfortable to simply hold on assuming the company will continue keeping a low profile.

The Final Word

Gogox Holdings' plummeting stock price has brought its P/S back to a similar region as the rest of the industry. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.

It appears to us that Gogox Holdings maintains its moderate P/S off the back of its recent three-year growth being in line with the wider industry forecast. Right now shareholders are comfortable with the P/S as they are quite confident future revenue won't throw up any surprises. Unless the recent medium-term conditions change, they will continue to support the share price at these levels.

It's always necessary to consider the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 3 warning signs with Gogox Holdings (at least 2 which make us uncomfortable), and understanding these should be part of your investment process.
