Have Insiders Been Buying Midland Holdings Limited (HKG:1200) Shares?
We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Midland Holdings Limited (HKG:1200).
What Is Insider Buying?
It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.
Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. As Peter Lynch said, 'insiders might sell their shares for any number of reasons, but they buy them for only one: they think the price will rise'.

Midland Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Yuen Hing Lam bought HK$595k worth of shares at a price of HK$1.09 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of HK$0.75. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. It is encouraging to see an insider paid above the current price for shares, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels. Yuen Hing Lam was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.

Does Midland Holdings Boast High Insider Ownership?
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Midland Holdings insiders own 44% of the company, currently worth about HK$227m based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About Midland Holdings Insiders?
It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Midland Holdings shares in the last quarter. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging. It would be great to see more insider buying, but overall it seems like Midland Holdings insiders are reasonably well aligned (owning significant chunk of the company's shares) and optimistic for the future.
