Improved Revenues Required Before FingerTango Inc. (HKG:6860) Stock's 28% Jump Looks Justified
Despite an already strong run, FingerTango Inc. (HKG:6860) shares have been powering on, with a gain of 28% in the last thirty days. Looking back a bit further, it's encouraging to see the stock is up 40% in the last year.
Even after such a large jump in price, FingerTango may still be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.3x, considering almost half of all companies in the Entertainment industry in Hong Kong have P/S ratios greater than 1.6x and even P/S higher than 4x aren't out of the ordinary. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

How Has FingerTango Performed Recently?
As an illustration, revenue has deteriorated at FingerTango over the last year, which is not ideal at all. Perhaps the market believes the recent revenue performance isn't good enough to keep up the industry, causing the P/S ratio to suffer. Those who are bullish on FingerTango will be hoping that this isn't the case so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as low as FingerTango's is when the company's growth is on track to lag the industry.
In reviewing the last year of financials, we were disheartened to see the company's revenues fell to the tune of 12%. This has soured the latest three-year period, which nevertheless managed to deliver a decent 10% overall rise in revenue. Although it's been a bumpy ride, it's still fair to say the revenue growth recently has been mostly respectable for the company.
Comparing that to the industry, which is predicted to deliver 13% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is weaker, based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.
With this in consideration, it's easy to understand why FingerTango's P/S falls short of the mark set by its industry peers. It seems most investors are expecting to see the recent limited growth rates continue into the future and are only willing to pay a reduced amount for the stock.
The Final Word
Despite FingerTango's share price climbing recently, its P/S still lags most other companies. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
In line with expectations, FingerTango maintains its low P/S on the weakness of its recent three-year growth being lower than the wider industry forecast. Right now shareholders are accepting the low P/S as they concede future revenue probably won't provide any pleasant surprises. If recent medium-term revenue trends continue, it's hard to see the share price experience a reversal of fortunes anytime soon.
