Unfortunately for some shareholders, the ClouDr Group Limited (HKG:9955) share price has dived 29% in the last thirty days, prolonging recent pain. For any long-term shareholders, the last month ends a year to forget by locking in a 82% share price decline.

After such a large drop in price, ClouDr Group may be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.2x, considering almost half of all companies in the Healthcare industry in Hong Kong have P/S ratios greater than 0.9x and even P/S higher than 3x aren't out of the ordinary. However, the P/S might be low for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

How Has ClouDr Group Performed Recently?

ClouDr Group could be doing better as it's been growing revenue less than most other companies lately. Perhaps the market is expecting the current trend of poor revenue growth to continue, which has kept the P/S suppressed. If you still like the company, you'd be hoping revenue doesn't get any worse and that you could pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

How Is ClouDr Group's Revenue Growth Trending?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, ClouDr Group would need to produce sluggish growth that's trailing the industry.

If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 18%. The strong recent performance means it was also able to grow revenue by 165% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 28% as estimated by the three analysts watching the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to only expand by 15%, which is noticeably less attractive.

With this information, we find it odd that ClouDr Group is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. It looks like most investors are not convinced at all that the company can achieve future growth expectations.

The Key Takeaway

The southerly movements of ClouDr Group's shares means its P/S is now sitting at a pretty low level. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.

To us, it seems ClouDr Group currently trades on a significantly depressed P/S given its forecasted revenue growth is higher than the rest of its industry. The reason for this depressed P/S could potentially be found in the risks the market is pricing in. While the possibility of the share price plunging seems unlikely due to the high growth forecasted for the company, the market does appear to have some hesitation.
