Tam Jai International Co. Limited's (HKG:2217) dividend is being reduced from last year's payment covering the same period to HK$0.0135 on the 16th of December. This means the annual payment is 9.3% of the current stock price, which is above the average for the industry.

Tam Jai International's Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage

While it is great to have a strong dividend yield, we should also consider whether the payment is sustainable. Generally, we don't like to see a dividend that has been declining over time as this can degrade shareholders' returns and indicate that the company may be running into problems.

Dividends have been going in the wrong direction, so we definitely want to see a different trend in the earnings per share. Tam Jai International's earnings per share has shrunk at 22% a year over the past five years.
