Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. But as Warren Buffett has mused, 'If you've been playing poker for half an hour and you still don't know who the patsy is, you're the patsy.' When they buy such story stocks, investors are all too often the patsy.

If, on the other hand, you like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in Man Shing Global Holdings (HKG:8309). While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

How Fast Is Man Shing Global Holdings Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

In the last three years Man Shing Global Holdings's earnings per share took off like a rocket; fast, and from a low base. So the actual rate of growth doesn't tell us much. Thus, it makes sense to focus on more recent growth rates, instead. Like the last firework on New Year's Eve accelerating into the sky, Man Shing Global Holdings's EPS shot from HK$0.025 to HK$0.045, over the last year. Year on year growth of 83% is certainly a sight to behold.

One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. While we note Man Shing Global Holdings's EBIT margins were flat over the last year, revenue grew by a solid 20% to HK$581m. That's progress.

Since Man Shing Global Holdings is no giant, with a market capitalization of HK$43m, so you should definitely check its cash and debt before getting too excited about its prospects.

Are Man Shing Global Holdings Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Personally, I like to see high insider ownership of a company, since it suggests that it will be managed in the interests of shareholders. So as you can imagine, the fact that Man Shing Global Holdings insiders own a significant number of shares certainly appeals to me. In fact, they own 62% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders. This makes me think they will be incentivised to plan for the long term - something I like to see. Of course, Man Shing Global Holdings is a very small company, with a market cap of only HK$43m. That means insiders only have HK$27m worth of shares, despite the large proportional holding. That might not be a huge sum but it should be enough to keep insiders motivated!
