CIMC Enric Holdings Limited's (HKG:3899) Stock Has Seen Strong Momentum: Does That Call For Deeper Study Of Its Financial Prospects?

CIMC Enric Holdings (HKG:3899) has had a great run on the share market with its stock up by a significant 14% over the last three months. Given that stock prices are usually aligned with a company's financial performance in the long-term, we decided to study its financial indicators more closely to see if they had a hand to play in the recent price move. In this article, we decided to focus on CIMC Enric Holdings' ROE.

Return on equity or ROE is an important factor to be considered by a shareholder because it tells them how effectively their capital is being reinvested. In simpler terms, it measures the profitability of a company in relation to shareholder's equity.

How Do You Calculate Return On Equity?

The formula for return on equity is:

Return on Equity = Net Profit (from continuing operations) ÷ Shareholders' Equity

So, based on the above formula, the ROE for CIMC Enric Holdings is:

9.2% = CN¥1.2b ÷ CN¥13b (Based on the trailing twelve months to June 2025).

The 'return' is the yearly profit. That means that for every HK$1 worth of shareholders' equity, the company generated HK$0.09 in profit.

What Is The Relationship Between ROE And Earnings Growth?

We have already established that ROE serves as an efficient profit-generating gauge for a company's future earnings. Based on how much of its profits the company chooses to reinvest or "retain", we are then able to evaluate a company's future ability to generate profits. Generally speaking, other things being equal, firms with a high return on equity and profit retention, have a higher growth rate than firms that don’t share these attributes.

CIMC Enric Holdings' Earnings Growth And 9.2% ROE

On the face of it, CIMC Enric Holdings' ROE is not much to talk about. However, given that the company's ROE is similar to the average industry ROE of 8.8%, we may spare it some thought. Having said that, CIMC Enric Holdings has shown a modest net income growth of 11% over the past five years. Considering the moderately low ROE, it is quite possible that there might be some other aspects that are positively influencing the company's earnings growth. For instance, the company has a low payout ratio or is being managed efficiently.

Next, on comparing with the industry net income growth, we found that CIMC Enric Holdings' growth is quite high when compared to the industry average growth of 7.6% in the same period, which is great to see.

When oil spikes, crude gets the attention. I think the boring refiner in the middle is where it gets interesting, and a record shows why.

It's cyclical, but there's a hedging case. Worth being precise about it though. Refiners buy crude and sell products, so a crude spike alone hurts them. In 2008 oil hit 147 and refining margins collapsed. What they hedge is a product supply shock, not an oil one. This is what is happening now.

At first glance, this was the strongest earnings season in years. But when you look at where the growth actually came from, the story splits into two very different pictures.
