While it’s been a great week for Calnex Solutions plc (LON:CLX) shareholders after stock gained 13%, not so much for insiders who sold stock over the past year. They could have sold their shares at much higher prices and gotten a better return on their investment if they had waited.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Calnex Solutions Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The CFO, Company Secretary & Director, Ashleigh Greenan, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for UK£58k worth of shares at a price of UK£1.93 each. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is UK£1.39. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price. Ashleigh Greenan was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Does Calnex Solutions Boast High Insider Ownership?

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It appears that Calnex Solutions insiders own 20% of the company, worth about UK£25m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
