Devolver Digital, Inc. (LON:DEVO) shares have continued their recent momentum with a 29% gain in the last month alone. Looking further back, the 18% rise over the last twelve months isn't too bad notwithstanding the strength over the last 30 days.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, there still wouldn't be many who think Devolver Digital's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.8x is worth a mention when the median P/S in the United Kingdom's Entertainment industry is similar at about 1.3x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

How Devolver Digital Has Been Performing

While the industry has experienced revenue growth lately, Devolver Digital's revenue has gone into reverse gear, which is not great. Perhaps the market is expecting its poor revenue performance to improve, keeping the P/S from dropping. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

Is There Some Revenue Growth Forecasted For Devolver Digital?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Devolver Digital would need to produce growth that's similar to the industry.

Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 31%. The last three years don't look nice either as the company has shrunk revenue by 57% in aggregate. Accordingly, shareholders would have felt downbeat about the medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Looking ahead now, revenue is anticipated to climb by 13% each year during the coming three years according to the seven analysts following the company. That's shaping up to be materially higher than the 8.6% each year growth forecast for the broader industry.

With this information, we find it interesting that Devolver Digital is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently some shareholders are skeptical of the forecasts and have been accepting lower selling prices.

What We Can Learn From Devolver Digital's P/S?

Its shares have lifted substantially and now Devolver Digital's P/S is back within range of the industry median. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.

We've established that Devolver Digital currently trades on a lower than expected P/S since its forecasted revenue growth is higher than the wider industry. When we see a strong revenue outlook, with growth outpacing the industry, we can only assume potential uncertainty around these figures are what might be placing slight pressure on the P/S ratio. However, if you agree with the analysts' forecasts, you may be able to pick up the stock at an attractive price.
