Drone Volt SA (EPA:ALDRV) Might Not Be As Mispriced As It Looks After Plunging 26%

To the annoyance of some shareholders, Drone Volt SA (EPA:ALDRV) shares are down a considerable 26% in the last month, which continues a horrid run for the company. For any long-term shareholders, the last month ends a year to forget by locking in a 51% share price decline.

In spite of the heavy fall in price, you could still be forgiven for feeling indifferent about Drone Volt's P/S ratio of 0.4x, since the median price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio for the Electronic industry in France is also close to 0.3x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

What Does Drone Volt's P/S Mean For Shareholders?

With revenue growth that's exceedingly strong of late, Drone Volt has been doing very well. The P/S is probably moderate because investors think this strong revenue growth might not be enough to outperform the broader industry in the near future. Those who are bullish on Drone Volt will be hoping that this isn't the case, so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.

Although there are no analyst estimates available for Drone Volt, take a look at this free data-rich visualisation to see how the company stacks up on earnings, revenue and cash flow.

Is There Some Revenue Growth Forecasted For Drone Volt?

The only time you'd be comfortable seeing a P/S like Drone Volt's is when the company's growth is tracking the industry closely.

If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 75%. The latest three year period has also seen an incredible overall rise in revenue, aided by its incredible short-term performance. So we can start by confirming that the company has done a tremendous job of growing revenue over that time.

Comparing that recent medium-term revenue trajectory with the industry's one-year growth forecast of 21% shows it's noticeably more attractive.

With this information, we find it interesting that Drone Volt is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance is at its limits and have been accepting lower selling prices.

What Does Drone Volt's P/S Mean For Investors?

Drone Volt's plummeting stock price has brought its P/S back to a similar region as the rest of the industry. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.

To our surprise, Drone Volt revealed its three-year revenue trends aren't contributing to its P/S as much as we would have predicted, given they look better than current industry expectations. There could be some unobserved threats to revenue preventing the P/S ratio from matching this positive performance. At least the risk of a price drop looks to be subdued if recent medium-term revenue trends continue, but investors seem to think future revenue could see some volatility.

And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 4 warning signs for Drone Volt (of which 1 doesn't sit too well with us!) you should know about.
