With EPS Growth And More, Novacyt (EPA:ALNOV) Is Interesting
For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.
In contrast to all that, I prefer to spend time on companies like Novacyt (EPA:ALNOV), which has not only revenues, but also profits. Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. In comparison, loss making companies act like a sponge for capital - but unlike such a sponge they do not always produce something when squeezed.

How Fast Is Novacyt Growing Its Earnings Per Share?
Over the last three years, Novacyt has grown earnings per share (EPS) like young bamboo after rain; fast, and from a low base. So I don't think the percent growth rate is particularly meaningful. As a result, I'll zoom in on growth over the last year, instead. Like a firecracker arcing through the night sky, Novacyt's EPS shot from UK£0.55 to UK£1.20, over the last year. Year on year growth of 118% is certainly a sight to behold. That could be a sign that the business has reached a true inflection point.
I like to see top-line growth as an indication that growth is sustainable, and I look for a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin to point to a competitive moat (though some companies with low margins also have moats). While Novacyt did well to grow revenue over the last year, EBIT margins were dampened at the same time. So if EBIT margins can stabilize, this top-line growth should pay off for shareholders.

Since Novacyt is no giant, with a market capitalization of €169m, so you should definitely check its cash and debt before getting too excited about its prospects.
Are Novacyt Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Like standing at the lookout, surveying the horizon at sunrise, insider buying, for some investors, sparks joy. That's because insider buying often indicates that those closest to the company have confidence that the share price will perform well. However, insiders are sometimes wrong, and we don't know the exact thinking behind their acquisitions.
We haven't seen any insiders selling Novacyt shares, in the last year. With that in mind, it's heartening that Guillermo Raimondo, the Chief Commercial Officer of the company, paid UK£39k for shares at around UK£3.85 each.
Is Novacyt Worth Keeping An Eye On?
Novacyt's earnings per share growth have been levitating higher, like a mountain goat scaling the Alps. Growth investors should find it difficult to look past that strong EPS move. And in fact, it could well signal a fundamental shift in the business economics. If that's the case, you may regret neglecting to put Novacyt on your watchlist. It is worth noting though that we have found 3 warning signs for Novacyt (1 is concerning!) that you need to take into consideration.
