TotalEnergies SE Just Missed EPS By 7.0%: Here's What Analysts Think Will Happen Next

TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTE) just released its latest full-year report and things are not looking great. TotalEnergies missed analyst forecasts, with revenues of US$196b and statutory earnings per share (EPS) of US$6.69, falling short by 3.2% and 7.0% respectively. The analysts typically update their forecasts at each earnings report, and we can judge from their estimates whether their view of the company has changed or if there are any new concerns to be aware of. So we collected the latest post-earnings statutory consensus estimates to see what could be in store for next year.

ENXTPA:TTE Earnings and Revenue Growth April 4th 2025

Following last week's earnings report, TotalEnergies' 20 analysts are forecasting 2025 revenues to be US$193.3b, approximately in line with the last 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to climb 19% to US$8.41. Yet prior to the latest earnings, the analysts had been anticipated revenues of US$195.8b and earnings per share (EPS) of US$8.40 in 2025. The consensus analysts don't seem to have seen anything in these results that would have changed their view on the business, given there's been no major change to their estimates.

The analysts reconfirmed their price target of €67.55, showing that the business is executing well and in line with expectations. There's another way to think about price targets though, and that's to look at the range of price targets put forward by analysts, because a wide range of estimates could suggest a diverse view on possible outcomes for the business. The most optimistic TotalEnergies analyst has a price target of €88.25 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at €57.43. These price targets show that analysts do have some differing views on the business, but the estimates do not vary enough to suggest to us that some are betting on wild success or utter failure.

These estimates are interesting, but it can be useful to paint some more broad strokes when seeing how forecasts compare, both to the TotalEnergies' past performance and to peers in the same industry. We would highlight that revenue is expected to reverse, with a forecast 1.2% annualised decline to the end of 2025. That is a notable change from historical growth of 9.6% over the last five years. Compare this with our data, which suggests that other companies in the same industry are, in aggregate, expected to see their revenue grow 2.1% per year. It's pretty clear that TotalEnergies' revenues are expected to perform substantially worse than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away is that there's been no major change in sentiment, with the analysts reconfirming that the business is performing in line with their previous earnings per share estimates. On the plus side, there were no major changes to revenue estimates; although forecasts imply they will perform worse than the wider industry. The consensus price target held steady at €67.55, with the latest estimates not enough to have an impact on their price targets.

Following on from that line of thought, we think that the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings. We have estimates - from multiple TotalEnergies analysts - going out to 2027, and you can see them free on our platform here.
