Séché Environnement SA (EPA:SCHP) has announced that it will be increasing its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 10th of July to €1.20. Although the dividend is now higher, the yield is only 1.1%, which is below the industry average.

Séché Environnement's Dividend Is Well Covered By Earnings
The dividend yield is a little bit low, but sustainability of the payments is also an important part of evaluating an income stock. However, prior to this announcement, Séché Environnement's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 66.1% over the next year. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 12% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.
Séché Environnement Has A Solid Track Record
The company has an extended history of paying stable dividends. Since 2014, the dividend has gone from €0.95 total annually to €1.20. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 2.4% a year over that time. While the consistency in the dividend payments is impressive, we think the relatively slow rate of growth is less attractive.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. Séché Environnement has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 25% per annum. Earnings have been growing rapidly, and with a low payout ratio we think that the company could turn out to be a great dividend stock.
We Really Like Séché Environnement's Dividend
In summary, it is always positive to see the dividend being increased, and we are particularly pleased with its overall sustainability. The company is easily earning enough to cover its dividend payments and it is great to see that these earnings are being translated into cash flow. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.
Companies possessing a stable dividend policy will likely enjoy greater investor interest than those suffering from a more inconsistent approach.
