Over the last year, a good number of insiders have significantly increased their holdings in ISS A/S (CPH:ISS). This is encouraging because it indicates that insiders are more optimistic about the company's prospects.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

ISS Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Jacob Aarup-Andersen bought kr.4.2m worth of shares at a price of kr.119 per share. That implies that an insider found the current price of kr.130 per share to be enticing. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. Happily, the ISS insiders decided to buy shares at close to current prices.

In the last twelve months insiders purchased 60.06k shares for kr.7.4m. But they sold 1.26k shares for kr.155k. In total, ISS insiders bought more than they sold over the last year. Have ISS Insiders Traded Recently?

We saw Independent Director Reshma Ramachandran buy shares worth kr.159k in the last three months. However that only slightly eclipses the sales, kr.155k worth of sales. So it is hard to draw any conclusion about how insiders are feeling about the stock, from these recent trades.

Insider Ownership

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. From our data, it seems that ISS insiders own 0.2% of the company, worth about kr.39m. Whilst better than nothing, we're not overly impressed by these holdings.

So What Does This Data Suggest About ISS Insiders?

Insider purchases may have been minimal, in the last three months, but there was no selling at all. The net investment is not enough to encourage us much. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging. Overall we don't see anything to make us think ISS insiders are doubting the company, and they do own shares.
