DR (SZSE:301177) Has Announced That Its Dividend Will Be Reduced To CN¥0.50
DR Corporation Limited's (SZSE:301177) dividend is being reduced from last year's payment covering the same period to CN¥0.50 on the 21st of June. This means that the annual payment is 2.4% of the current stock price, which is lower than what the rest of the industry is paying.

DR Might Find It Hard To Continue The Dividend
The dividend yield is a little bit low, but sustainability of the payments is also an important part of evaluating an income stock. Even in the absence of profits, DR is paying a dividend. It is also not generating any free cash flow, we definitely have concerns when it comes to the sustainability of the dividend.
Analysts expect the EPS to grow by 66.8% over the next 12 months. The company seems to be going down the right path, but it will take a little bit longer than a year to cross over into profitability. Unless this happens fairly soon, the dividend could start to come under pressure.
DR's Dividend Has Lacked Consistency
Looking back, the dividend has been unstable but with a relatively short history, we think it may be a bit early to draw conclusions about long term dividend sustainability. The dividend has gone from an annual total of CN¥2.00 in 2022 to the most recent total annual payment of CN¥0.50. The dividend has fallen 75% over that period. Declining dividends isn't generally what we look for as they can indicate that the company is running into some challenges.
The Dividend Has Limited Growth Potential
With a relatively unstable dividend, and a poor history of shrinking dividends, it's even more important to see if EPS is growing. DR's earnings per share has shrunk at 28% a year over the past five years. This steep decline can indicate that the business is going through a tough time, which could constrain its ability to pay a larger dividend each year in the future. On the bright side, earnings are predicted to gain some ground over the next year, but until this turns into a pattern we wouldn't be feeling too comfortable.
We're Not Big Fans Of DR's Dividend
In summary, it's not great to see that the dividend is being cut, but it is probably understandable given that the current payment level was quite high. The company seems to be stretching itself a bit to make such big payments, but it doesn't appear they can be consistent over time. Overall, this doesn't get us very excited from an income standpoint.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable.
