Time To Worry? Analysts Just Downgraded Their Arbonia AG (VTX:ARBN) Outlook

The latest analyst coverage could presage a bad day for Arbonia AG (VTX:ARBN), with the analysts making across-the-board cuts to their statutory estimates that might leave shareholders a little shell-shocked. There was a fairly draconian cut to their revenue estimates, perhaps an implicit admission that previous forecasts were much too optimistic.

Following the downgrade, the current consensus from Arbonia's four analysts is for revenues of CHF570m in 2024 which - if met - would reflect a notable 12% increase on its sales over the past 12 months. The losses are expected to disappear over the next year or so, with forecasts for a profit of CHF0.28 per share this year. Previously, the analysts had been modelling revenues of CHF789m and earnings per share (EPS) of CHF0.38 in 2024. It looks like analyst sentiment has declined substantially, with a sizeable cut to revenue estimates and a pretty serious decline to earnings per share numbers as well.

What's most unexpected is that the consensus price target rose 19% to CHF14.40, strongly implying the downgrade to forecasts is not expected to be more than a temporary blip.

One way to get more context on these forecasts is to look at how they compare to both past performance, and how other companies in the same industry are performing. One thing stands out from these estimates, which is that Arbonia is forecast to grow faster in the future than it has in the past, with revenues expected to display 12% annualised growth until the end of 2024. If achieved, this would be a much better result than the 8.0% annual decline over the past five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in the industry are forecast to see their revenue grow 4.7% per year. Not only are Arbonia's revenues expected to improve, it seems that the analysts are also expecting it to grow faster than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The biggest issue in the new estimates is that analysts have reduced their earnings per share estimates, suggesting business headwinds lay ahead for Arbonia. Unfortunately, analysts also downgraded their revenue estimates, although our data indicates revenues are expected to perform better than the wider market. There was also a nice increase in the price target, with analysts apparently feeling that the intrinsic value of the business is improving. Overall, given the drastic downgrade to this year's forecasts, we'd be feeling a little more wary of Arbonia going forwards.

Still, the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for Arbonia going out to 2026, and you can see them free on our platform here.
