Here's Why We Think C-Com Satellite Systems (CVE:CMI) Is Well Worth Watching
For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But as Warren Buffett has mused, 'If you've been playing poker for half an hour and you still don't know who the patsy is, you're the patsy.' When they buy such story stocks, investors are all too often the patsy.
So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like C-Com Satellite Systems (CVE:CMI). While that doesn't make the shares worth buying at any price, you can't deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, unless its owners have an endless appetite for subsidizing the customer, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else breathe its last breath.

C-Com Satellite Systems's Earnings Per Share Are Growing.
The market is a voting machine in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term, so share price follows earnings per share (EPS) eventually. That makes EPS growth an attractive quality for any company. Impressively, C-Com Satellite Systems has grown EPS by 28% per year, compound, in the last three years. As a result, we can understand why the stock trades on a high multiple of trailing twelve month earnings.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. Unfortunately, C-Com Satellite Systems's revenue dropped 7.4% last year, but the silver lining is that EBIT margins improved from 18% to 22%. That falls short of ideal.

Since C-Com Satellite Systems is no giant, with a market capitalization of CA$126m, so you should definitely check its cash and debt before getting too excited about its prospects.
Are C-Com Satellite Systems Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Many consider high insider ownership to be a strong sign of alignment between the leaders of a company and the ordinary shareholders. So as you can imagine, the fact that C-Com Satellite Systems insiders own a significant number of shares certainly appeals to me. In fact, they own 42% of the shares, making insiders a very influential shareholder group. I'm always comforted by solid insider ownership like this, as it implies that those running the business are genuinely motivated to create shareholder value. With that sort of holding, insiders have about CA$53m riding on the stock, at current prices. That should be more than enough to keep them focussed on creating shareholder value!
Should You Add C-Com Satellite Systems To Your Watchlist?
For growth investors like me, C-Com Satellite Systems's raw rate of earnings growth is a beacon in the night. Further, the high level of insider ownership impresses me, and suggests that I'm not the only one who appreciates the EPS growth. Fast growth and confident insiders should be enough to warrant further research. So the answer is that I do think this is a good stock to follow along with. You still need to take note of risks, for example - C-Com Satellite Systems has 5 warning signs (and 1 which is potentially serious) we think you should know about.
Of course, you can do well (sometimes) buying stocks that are not growing earnings and do not have insiders buying shares. But as a growth investor I always like to check out companies that do have those features. You can access a free list of them here.
