Unfortunately for some shareholders, the 1CM Inc. (CSE:EPIC) share price has dived 32% in the last thirty days, prolonging recent pain. For any long-term shareholders, the last month ends a year to forget by locking in a 57% share price decline.

Although its price has dipped substantially, you could still be forgiven for feeling indifferent about 1CM's P/S ratio of 1.7x, since the median price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio for the Pharmaceuticals industry in Canada is also close to 1.2x. However, investors might be overlooking a clear opportunity or potential setback if there is no rational basis for the P/S.

How 1CM Has Been Performing

Recent times have been quite advantageous for 1CM as its revenue has been rising very briskly. It might be that many expect the strong revenue performance to wane, which has kept the share price, and thus the P/S ratio, from rising. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.

Although there are no analyst estimates available for 1CM, take a look at this free data-rich visualisation to see how the company stacks up on earnings, revenue and cash flow.

How Is 1CM's Revenue Growth Trending?

1CM's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the industry.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 198% gain to the company's top line. This great performance means it was also able to deliver immense revenue growth over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

Comparing that to the industry, which is only predicted to deliver 6.6% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is stronger based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.

With this information, we find it interesting that 1CM is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance is at its limits and have been accepting lower selling prices.

What Does 1CM's P/S Mean For Investors?

1CM's plummeting stock price has brought its P/S back to a similar region as the rest of the industry. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.

We've established that 1CM currently trades on a lower than expected P/S since its recent three-year growth is higher than the wider industry forecast. It'd be fair to assume that potential risks the company faces could be the contributing factor to the lower than expected P/S. It appears some are indeed anticipating revenue instability, because the persistence of these recent medium-term conditions would normally provide a boost to the share price.

Don't forget that there may be other risks. For instance, we've identified 4 warning signs for 1CM (2 are a bit unpleasant) you should be aware of.
