A Piece Of The Puzzle Missing From 1CM Inc.'s (CSE:EPIC) 86% Share Price Climb
The 1CM Inc. (CSE:EPIC) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 86%. Looking back a bit further, it's encouraging to see the stock is up 82% in the last year.
Although its price has surged higher, it's still not a stretch to say that 1CM's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.8x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Pharmaceuticals industry in Canada, where the median P/S ratio is around 1x. While this might not raise any eyebrows, if the P/S ratio is not justified investors could be missing out on a potential opportunity or ignoring looming disappointment.

What Does 1CM's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
With revenue growth that's exceedingly strong of late, 1CM has been doing very well. The P/S is probably moderate because investors think this strong revenue growth might not be enough to outperform the broader industry in the near future. Those who are bullish on 1CM will be hoping that this isn't the case, so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.

1CM's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the industry.
Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 35% last year. Spectacularly, three year revenue growth has ballooned by several orders of magnitude, thanks in part to the last 12 months of revenue growth. Accordingly, shareholders would have been over the moon with those medium-term rates of revenue growth.
Comparing that recent medium-term revenue trajectory with the industry's one-year growth forecast of 17% shows it's noticeably more attractive.
With this information, we find it interesting that 1CM is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance is at its limits and have been accepting lower selling prices.
What We Can Learn From 1CM's P/S?
1CM's stock has a lot of momentum behind it lately, which has brought its P/S level with the rest of the industry. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
We didn't quite envision 1CM's P/S sitting in line with the wider industry, considering the revenue growth over the last three-year is higher than the current industry outlook. It'd be fair to assume that potential risks the company faces could be the contributing factor to the lower than expected P/S. While recent revenue trends over the past medium-term suggest that the risk of a price decline is low, investors appear to see the likelihood of revenue fluctuations in the future.
It is also worth noting that we have found 2 warning signs for 1CM (1 is a bit concerning!) that you need to take into consideration.
