1CM Inc.'s (CSE:EPIC) Stock Has Shown Weakness Lately But Financial Prospects Look Decent: Is The Market Wrong?
1CM (CSE:EPIC) has had a rough week with its share price down 16%. But if you pay close attention, you might find that its key financial indicators look quite decent, which could mean that the stock could potentially rise in the long-term given how markets usually reward more resilient long-term fundamentals. In this article, we decided to focus on 1CM's ROE.
ROE or return on equity is a useful tool to assess how effectively a company can generate returns on the investment it received from its shareholders. Simply put, it is used to assess the profitability of a company in relation to its equity capital.
How To Calculate Return On Equity?
The formula for ROE is:
Return on Equity = Net Profit (from continuing operations) ÷ Shareholders' Equity
So, based on the above formula, the ROE for 1CM is:
6.0% = CA$1.7m ÷ CA$29m (Based on the trailing twelve months to May 2025).
The 'return' is the yearly profit. So, this means that for every CA$1 of its shareholder's investments, the company generates a profit of CA$0.06.

What Is The Relationship Between ROE And Earnings Growth?
We have already established that ROE serves as an efficient profit-generating gauge for a company's future earnings. We now need to evaluate how much profit the company reinvests or "retains" for future growth which then gives us an idea about the growth potential of the company. Assuming everything else remains unchanged, the higher the ROE and profit retention, the higher the growth rate of a company compared to companies that don't necessarily bear these characteristics.
A Side By Side comparison of 1CM's Earnings Growth And 6.0% ROE
On the face of it, 1CM's ROE is not much to talk about. However, given that the company's ROE is similar to the average industry ROE of 5.8%, we may spare it some thought. Looking at 1CM's exceptional 61% five-year net income growth in particular, we are definitely impressed. Given the slightly low ROE, it is likely that there could be some other aspects that are driving this growth. Such as - high earnings retention or an efficient management in place.
Next, on comparing with the industry net income growth, we found that 1CM's growth is quite high when compared to the industry average growth of 27% in the same period, which is great to see.
Earnings growth is a huge factor in stock valuation. What investors need to determine next is if the expected earnings growth, or the lack of it, is already built into the share price. This then helps them determine if the stock is placed for a bright or bleak future. Is 1CM fairly valued compared to other companies? These 3 valuation measures might help you decide.
Is 1CM Making Efficient Use Of Its Profits?
Given that 1CM doesn't pay any regular dividends to its shareholders, we infer that the company has been reinvesting all of its profits to grow its business.
Summary
In total, it does look like 1CM has some positive aspects to its business. Even in spite of the low rate of return, the company has posted impressive earnings growth as a result of reinvesting heavily into its business. While we won't completely dismiss the company, what we would do, is try to ascertain how risky the business is to make a more informed decision around the company.
