Insiders who purchased CA$1.0m worth of Signature Resources Ltd. (CVE:SGU) shares over the past year recouped some of their losses after price gained 40% last week. The purchase, however, has proven to be a pricey bet, with losses currently totalling CA$300k.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Signature Resources Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Independent Chairman of the Board Paolo Lostritto bought CA$500k worth of shares at a price of CA$0.05 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being CA$0.035). It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.
