Insider Buyers At Cantex Mine Development Likely Disappointed With 10.0% Slide
The recent 10.0% drop in Cantex Mine Development Corp.'s (CVE:CD) stock could come as a blow to insiders who purchased CA$1.26m worth of stock at an average buy price of CA$0.13 over the past 12 months. Insiders buy with the expectation to see their investments rise in value over a period of time. However, recent losses have rendered their above investment worth CA$866.5k which is not ideal.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Cantex Mine Development
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Chairman of the Board Charles Fipke bought CA$1m worth of shares at a price of CA$0.12 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of CA$0.09. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 31% of Cantex Mine Development shares, worth about CA$3.7m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
