ADF Group (TSE:DRX) Shareholders Will Want The ROCE Trajectory To Continue
Did you know there are some financial metrics that can provide clues of a potential multi-bagger? In a perfect world, we'd like to see a company investing more capital into its business and ideally the returns earned from that capital are also increasing. If you see this, it typically means it's a company with a great business model and plenty of profitable reinvestment opportunities. So on that note, ADF Group (TSE:DRX) looks quite promising in regards to its trends of return on capital.
What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?
Just to clarify if you're unsure, ROCE is a metric for evaluating how much pre-tax income (in percentage terms) a company earns on the capital invested in its business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for ADF Group:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.13 = CA$25m ÷ (CA$280m - CA$89m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to July 2023).
Thus, ADF Group has an ROCE of 13%. On its own, that's a standard return, however it's much better than the 2.5% generated by the Metals and Mining industry.

The Trend Of ROCE
We're delighted to see that ADF Group is reaping rewards from its investments and is now generating some pre-tax profits. About five years ago the company was generating losses but things have turned around because it's now earning 13% on its capital. In addition to that, ADF Group is employing 49% more capital than previously which is expected of a company that's trying to break into profitability. We like this trend, because it tells us the company has profitable reinvestment opportunities available to it, and if it continues going forward that can lead to a multi-bagger performance.
The Bottom Line
Long story short, we're delighted to see that ADF Group's reinvestment activities have paid off and the company is now profitable. And a remarkable 234% total return over the last five years tells us that investors are expecting more good things to come in the future. So given the stock has proven it has promising trends, it's worth researching the company further to see if these trends are likely to persist.
