If You Like EPS Growth Then Check Out Solution Financial (CVE:SFI) Before It's Too Late
Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.
In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Solution Financial (CVE:SFI). Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

How Fast Is Solution Financial Growing Its Earnings Per Share?
Even with very modest growth rates, a company will usually do well if it improves earnings per share (EPS) year after year. So it's no surprise that some investors are more inclined to invest in profitable businesses. It is therefore awe-striking that Solution Financial's EPS went from CA$0.00025 to CA$0.0053 in just one year. Even though that growth rate is unlikely to be repeated, that looks like a breakout improvement. But the key is discerning whether something profound has changed, or if this is a just a one-off boost.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. I note that Solution Financial's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort my analysis of its margins. The good news is that Solution Financial is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 5.5 percentage points to 9.7%, over the last year. That's great to see, on both counts.

Solution Financial isn't a huge company, given its market capitalization of CA$39m. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.
Are Solution Financial Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Many consider high insider ownership to be a strong sign of alignment between the leaders of a company and the ordinary shareholders. So we're pleased to report that Solution Financial insiders own a meaningful share of the business. Indeed, with a collective holding of 66%, company insiders are in control and have plenty of capital behind the venture. To me this is a good sign because it suggests they will be incentivised to build value for shareholders over the long term. With that sort of holding, insiders have about CA$26m riding on the stock, at current prices. That should be more than enough to keep them focussed on creating shareholder value!
Is Solution Financial Worth Keeping An Eye On?
Solution Financial's earnings have taken off like any random crypto-currency did, back in 2017. That EPS growth certainly has my attention, and the large insider ownership only serves to further stoke my interest. The hope is, of course, that the strong growth marks a fundamental improvement in the business economics. So to my mind Solution Financial is worth putting on your watchlist; after all, shareholders do well when the market underestimates fast growing companies. What about risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 5 warning signs for Solution Financial (of which 2 make us uncomfortable!) you should know about.
Although Solution Financial certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
