Improved Earnings Required Before Billboard AD (BUL:BBRD) Stock's 48% Jump Looks Justified

Billboard AD (BUL:BBRD) shareholders would be excited to see that the share price has had a great month, posting a 48% gain and recovering from prior weakness. The last 30 days bring the annual gain to a very sharp 37%.

Although its price has surged higher, given about half the companies in Bulgaria have price-to-earnings ratios (or "P/E's") above 12x, you may still consider Billboard AD as a highly attractive investment with its 4.7x P/E ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/E at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so limited.

Recent times have been quite advantageous for Billboard AD as its earnings have been rising very briskly. One possibility is that the P/E is low because investors think this strong earnings growth might actually underperform the broader market in the near future. What Are Growth Metrics Telling Us About The Low P/E?

Billboard AD's P/E ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver very poor growth or even falling earnings, and importantly, perform much worse than the market.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 222% gain to the company's bottom line. Still, EPS has barely risen at all from three years ago in total, which is not ideal. Therefore, it's fair to say that earnings growth has been inconsistent recently for the company.
