Shareholders might have noticed that Melexis NV (EBR:MELE) filed its annual result this time last week. The early response was not positive, with shares down 5.1% to €55.50 in the past week. It looks like the results were a bit of a negative overall. While revenues of €933m were in line with analyst predictions, statutory earnings were less than expected, missing estimates by 5.8% to hit €4.24 per share. Earnings are an important time for investors, as they can track a company's performance, look at what the analysts are forecasting for next year, and see if there's been a change in sentiment towards the company. With this in mind, we've gathered the latest statutory forecasts to see what the analysts are expecting for next year.

ENXTBR:MELE Earnings and Revenue Growth February 8th 2025

After the latest results, the consensus from Melexis' eleven analysts is for revenues of €873.5m in 2025, which would reflect a small 6.4% decline in revenue compared to the last year of performance. Statutory earnings per share are forecast to descend 18% to €3.47 in the same period. In the lead-up to this report, the analysts had been modelling revenues of €915.7m and earnings per share (EPS) of €4.01 in 2025. The analysts seem less optimistic after the recent results, reducing their revenue forecasts and making a substantial drop in earnings per share numbers.

The consensus price target fell 7.1% to €70.27, with the weaker earnings outlook clearly leading valuation estimates. The consensus price target is just an average of individual analyst targets, so - it could be handy to see how wide the range of underlying estimates is. Currently, the most bullish analyst values Melexis at €92.00 per share, while the most bearish prices it at €55.00. These price targets show that analysts do have some differing views on the business, but the estimates do not vary enough to suggest to us that some are betting on wild success or utter failure.

One way to get more context on these forecasts is to look at how they compare to both past performance, and how other companies in the same industry are performing. These estimates imply that revenue is expected to slow, with a forecast annualised decline of 6.4% by the end of 2025. This indicates a significant reduction from annual growth of 17% over the last five years. Compare this with our data, which suggests that other companies in the same industry are, in aggregate, expected to see their revenue grow 11% per year. So although its revenues are forecast to shrink, this cloud does not come with a silver lining - Melexis is expected to lag the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away is that the analysts downgraded their earnings per share estimates, showing that there has been a clear decline in sentiment following these results. Unfortunately, they also downgraded their revenue estimates, and our data indicates underperformance compared to the wider industry. Even so, earnings per share are more important to the intrinsic value of the business. Furthermore, the analysts also cut their price targets, suggesting that the latest news has led to greater pessimism about the intrinsic value of the business.

With that said, the long-term trajectory of the company's earnings is a lot more important than next year. We have estimates - from multiple Melexis analysts - going out to 2027, and you can see them free on our platform here.
