Potential Schaffer Corporation Limited (ASX:SFC) shareholders may wish to note that the Non-Executive Independent Director, David Schwartz, recently bought AU$149k worth of stock, paying AU$21.97 for each share. However, it only increased shareholding by a small percentage, and it wasn't a huge purchase by absolute value, either.

Schaffer Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent purchase by David Schwartz is the biggest insider purchase of Schaffer shares that we've seen in the last year. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, at around the current price, which is AU$22.30. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. Happily, the Schaffer insiders decided to buy shares at close to current prices.

While Schaffer insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Schaffer insiders own 53% of the company, currently worth about AU$160m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
