Electronic Arts Stock Draws Focus as $55 Billion Buyout and In-Game Ad Platform Unfold A Saudi-led consortium including the Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners is pursuing a proposed $55b all-cash leveraged buyout of Electronic Arts at $210 per share, which would take the company private and add more than $20b in debt to its balance sheet if completed.
The consortium aims to secure European Commission approval and close the transaction by June 30, 2026, while related tender offers for EA’s senior notes have had their expiration and settlement dates extended as part of the financing process.
The proposed acquisition has drawn criticism from The Players Alliance and a large group of gamers concerned about potential studio closures, job cuts, AI-driven changes, game pricing, creative control, and the influence of Saudi ownership on EA’s culture. At the same time, EA has launched “EA Advertising,” a new in-game ad platform targeting over 120 million monthly players with integrated brand activations.
The combination of a record-setting leveraged buyout proposal and the launch of EA Advertising puts Electronic Arts at the center of both major corporate change and evolving monetization models within its games.
Investors may want to monitor regulatory reviews, stakeholder pushback, and how players respond to more integrated advertising, as these factors could affect EA’s business profile and risk balance if the buyout proceeds.
