Who Has Been Selling ASML Holding N.V. (AMS:ASML) Shares?
We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So before you buy or sell ASML Holding N.V. (AMS:ASML), you may well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling.
What Is Insider Buying?
It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, rules govern insider transactions, and certain disclosures are required.
Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But equally, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year'.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At ASML Holding
The Executive VP, Frederic J. Schneider-Maunoury, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for €2.3m worth of shares at a price of €293 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at below the current price (€297). We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was just 27% of Frederic J. Schneider-Maunoury's stake.

Does ASML Holding Boast High Insider Ownership?
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It appears that ASML Holding insiders own 0.02% of the company, worth about €24m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
What Might The Insider Transactions At ASML Holding Tell Us?
There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by ASML Holding insiders. But it's good to see that insiders own shares in the company. Therefore, you should definitely take a look at this FREE report showing analyst forecasts for ASML Holding.

mitchell_lawlerA dozen retail giants report this week, and they won't agree on whether the consumer is healthy. What if that disagreement is the real signal?

I won't rely solely on Retail Sales. It only tell you what was spent. Credit data is the one that tells you how. For me the latter is more important than the former.
