Independent Director of Gogo Picks Up 2.7% More Stock

Simply Wall St

Gogo Inc. (NASDAQ:GOGO) shareholders (or potential shareholders) will be happy to see that the Independent Director, Charles Townsend, recently bought a whopping US$779k worth of stock, at a price of US$7.08. There's no denying a buy of that magnitude suggests conviction in a brighter future, although we do note that proportionally it only increased their holding by 2.7%.

Gogo Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent purchase by Independent Director Charles Townsend was not their only acquisition of Gogo shares this year. They previously made an even bigger purchase of US$1.3m worth of shares at a price of US$6.74 per share. That implies that an insider found the current price of US$6.74 per share to be enticing. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider purchases were made at close to current prices.

While Gogo insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Gogo insiders own about US$42m worth of shares. That equates to 4.5% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
