SmartMetric, Inc. Announces Successful Manufacture of its GEN4 Fingerprint Activated Credit Card with SmartMetric Miniature Fingerprint Scanner Inside Card SmartMetric, Inc. announced the manufacture of its advanced GEN4 biometric fingerprint activated credit and debit card. Embedded inside the card is the SmartMetric miniature fully functional fingerprint scanner that scans the cardholder’s fingerprint in less than a half a second. The card user simply touches the sensor on the card’s surface that immediately senses whether the fingerprint is from a live person and performs an instantaneous scan of the fingerprint and match of the user’s pre-stored fingerprint encoded and encrypted inside the card’s memory. Unlike others, the SmartMetric fingerprint activated biometric credit card is self powered allowing the card to operate a scan and match prior to being inserted in a card reader. This makes the card usable at all card readers including ones that swallow the card. Taking credit card security beyond the risky and unsafe four digit PIN code, the SmartMetric GEN4 biometric card uses the card owner’s fingerprint to turn on the card after a secure on-card fingerprint match and live person detection. The SmartMetric biometric fingerprint scanning credit card is unique in the world in that it is the first and only such card that has an inbuilt rechargeable battery allowing the card to be used at any type of credit card reader including contactless and ATM readers. This technology is designed to enhance the security and convenience of credit card transactions, especially for contactless payments as well as standard contact in-store payments and ATM transactions. The SmartMetric finger scan card is light years ahead and brings the reality of full biometric security technology to the ubiquitous credit and debit card global market. Announcement • Jun 06
SmartMetric, Inc. Announces the Successful Completion of Its Miniature Fingerprint Scanner SmartMetric, Inc. announced that it has successfully completed the manufacture of its sub micro nano fingerprint scanner that fits inside a credit card. This allows the card holder's fingerprint to be used as the ultimate security key to unlock the credit card as it is inserted into a credit card reader or ATM. Taking credit card security beyond the risky and unsafe four digit PIN code, SmartMetric has developed a super small and thin fingerprint scanner that brings high level biometric security to the credit card. Some of the recent advancements SmartMetric has achieved in its now Gen4 biometric credit card technology is an inbuilt physical sensor that determines if an actual human live fingerprint is being used. This protects the card from being used by, for instance, a fake silicon fingerprint replica. In addition, the SmartMetric fingerprint electronics is powered by an extremely thin hybrid nano rechargeable battery, allowing the card to be used in card readers at such places as gas station pumps and ATMs that take the card wholly into the card reader. The SmartMetric biometric fingerprint scanning credit card is unique in the world in that it is the first and only such card that has an inbuilt rechargeable battery, allowing the card to be used at any type of credit card reader including contactless and ATM readers. Reports on credit card fraud are continuing to show an exponential growth in fraud rates in the United States. According to a report released this year by Security.org 151 million Americans have fallen victim to credit card fraud. 65% of credit and credit card holders have been fraud victims at some point in their lives, up from 58% last year. This equates to about 151 million Americans. An increasing number of Americans have been victims multiple times: in 2022, 44% of credit card users reported having two or more fraudulent charges, compared to 35% in 2021. Credit Card fraud is a growing issue for both card holders and card issuing banks. The biggest under-the-radar cost to the consumer is the add on fraud crimes that happen following a credit card fraud instance. A growing number of credit card fraud victims also become victims of other identity theft-based crimes which can be financially devastating to card fraud victims, according to SmartMetric's President & CEO, Chaya Hendrick. SmartMetric Technology Bringing a Fully Functional Fingerprint Scanner Inside Credit Card, Taking Credit Card Security to the Next Level SmartMetric, Inc. the miniature nano fingerprint scanner built by SmartMetric to fit inside a standard credit and debit card takes credit card security to the next level. Before using pin or any other cumbersome old credit and debit card security, cards with the SmartMetric nano fingerprint scanner inside provide a powerful first step in securing the card prior to it being used. The cardholders' fingerprint is matched with their fingerprint that is scanned by the nano internal scanner each time the card holder goes to use their card. A small square fingerprint sensor sits on the surface of the card that is connected to a circuit board inside the card. On this circuit board are extremely small and very low-profile electronic components that allow the users fingerprint to be scanned and matched in less then a second. On a fingerprint match the cards contact chip and contactless RFID is unlocked allowing the card to then operate at any standard card reader and ATM. Enrolling a fingerprint on the card for the first time is as simple as enrolling fingerprint on a mobile phone. Touch the sensor up to four (4) times and fingerprint is then forever embedded inside the cards encrypted memory. The memory for storing the fingerprint is firewalled and uses extremely strong encryption. Well over a decade of research and development has gone into creating the new GEN4 SmartMetric biometric card according to SmartMetric. The new GEN4 card is now in mass production. A small sample run of the assembled card was completed to test the cards latest operating system developed by SmartMetric. The software testing and the cards functioning has been successfully completed. Patients for the technology have been issued recently in the United States while other patents covering other parts of the world have been filed. Announcement • Nov 15

SmartMetric, Inc. Welcomes the Adoption of Biometric Credit Cards by Both Visa and Mastercard SmartMetric, Inc. recognizing the advanced security features of credit cards with built in biometric recognition technology both Visa2 and MasterCard2 have adopted the use of biometric credit cards over their respective payment networks. As with any new disruptive technology, SmartMetric sees that in the first instance there will be a steady adoption take up and then will see a dramatic S-curve adoption of biometric cards as banks and consumers alike are drawn to the advanced security of credit cards that have inbuilt biometrics. SmartMetric leads the world in biometric credit card technology in having developed a biometric credit card that has an internal rechargeable battery that is used to power the fingerprint scanning of the card user, independent of card reading terminals and ATMs. This allows the SmartMetric biometric card to be used “anywhere and anytime” a card holder wants to use their new biometric card. Other less advanced cards have begun trials in Europe that are not self-powered. This is a huge disadvantage over the SmartMetric card as a non-powered biometric card will not work at a lot of gas stations, ATMs and restaurants that process the credit card charging away from the table. The advanced SmartMetric biometric card has many other features, not least is its hardware-based detection of a live finger. This provides the card with added security against fake fingerprint replicas, making the SmartMetric biometric card the most secure card developed. Announcement • Jun 03

SmartMetric Biometric Card Leads the World in Having Biometric Credit Card That Works with All Card Readers SmartMetric, Inc. having spent years of research and development to perfect the miniaturization of electronic components along with the development of the SmartMetric card internal nano power management system, has created a biometric card that works with all credit card readers, including restaurants, store checkouts and ATM’s. Other companies who have attempted to copy the SmartMetric biometric credit card have failed to have a card that works across all card readers. These imitators have not spent the years of R&D that SmartMetric has in developing an internal power system, nor do they have a rechargeable internal battery to enable the card to work without being held in the card reader. The other card companies, because they do not have an internal power source, use the power of the card reader to power the fingerprint reading processor. This requires their card to be held in the card reader while a fingerprint scan of the card holder is done on their card. This failed system design by other biometric card companies means that the card will not work at ATM’s and most EMV gas pumps that of course “swallow” the card, not permitting the user to hold the card's fingerprint sensor on the card for a fingerprint scan. Restaurants that take the card from the table and process the payment at their card reading station also will not be able to process these non-powered biometric cards, since such cards need to be held by the card holder when the card is inserted into the card reader. Of course, restaurants that have a portable card reader that is brought to the table will work, but in markets such as the United States, it is a minority of restaurants that have portable to the table card readers. SmartMetric, Inc in Last Stage of Manufacture of Its Latest Biometric Fingerprint Credit Card Product SmartMetric, Inc. advised that it is now nearing the completion of the manufacturing of its latest version of its biometric credit card with the advanced nano fingerprint reader built inside the card. The main advanced features of the SmartMetric biometric card are: Internal rechargeable hybrid solid state battery that allows the card to be used for fingerprint recognition prior to the card being inserted into a reader. This state-of-the-art battery has been tailor made to the specifications of SmartMetric. It is non-volatile and can withstand being cut or punctured. The physical size is less than half of the prior battery that was being used by SmartMetric. Having a power source inside the card allows the card to be used for a fingerprint scan at such places as ATMs that “swallow” the card and at restaurants where the attendant takes the card from the table to process at the counter. Hardware solution that identifies a live fingerprint and differentiates between a real fingerprint as apposed to a fake fingerprint made of, say, silicon. This feature is unique to the SmartMetric biometric card and provides for a solid and robust live fingerprint detection. Others have said they can achieve live fingerprint detection through software. Having an electronics circuit board with mounted electronic components that fits inside a credit card ISO thickness has always been a challenge. It has taken SmartMetric years of R&D to perfect is miniaturization to less than 1/3 the thickness of a credit card. This is an incredible achievement in the field of electronics. Especially when you consider the SmartMetric circuit board has an ARM Cortex processor, flash memory and a complex power management system. It is akin to having a smartphone ciruit board one third the thickness of a credit card. This achievement in miniaturization has been achieved by SmartMetric engineers. SmartMetric operating system that is used to the control the card's internal Cortex processor used to perform the fingerprint scan of the card user. This operating system also controls the card's internal power management system that allows the card to receive a rapid recharge when inserted into a “contact” credit card reader. The SmartMetric OS also allows the card to rapidly harvest RFID/NFC energy from contactless card readers when the card is used for a contactless payment. This energy harvesting only provides enough power for a single fingerprint scan so it is limited in its use and application. Additional memory attached to the SmartMetric Cortex processor, allowing the card to be used in the future for multi usages beyond just payments. Since the SmartMetric biometric card solution does not use the cards EMV secure element but rather an independent secure processor for storing and matching the users fingerprint, the new card can be sent via mail to the card user and they are able to enroll their fingerprint much in the same way a person enrolls their fingerprint on a smartphone. This is absolutely critical in markets such as the USA where nearly 80% of new credit cards are sent out via the mail. Imitators of the SmartMetric card use the EMV secure element for storing the card holder’s fingerprint. This of itself creates system design inefficiencies but most importantly since the enrollment of the fingerprint is into the EMV payment system secure element chip, it requires the card holder to go into a bank branch and use a special enrollment device to have their fingerprint stored in the EMV chip. Of course, SmartMetric realized a number of years ago that this would not work in real life and would in fact inhibit the adoption of biometric credit cards. Consequently, SmartMetric spent a huge effort in providing a solution that operates like a smartphone. Simple frictionless self-fingerprint enrollment is an imperative for the design and development of the SmartMetric biometric credit card. Perfected the method of using standard credit card lamination equipment for the final card lamination and printing process. SmartMetric is able to provide the card as a “pre-lam” product to existing credit card laminators and card personalization providers that provide card services to card issuing Banks. The SmartMetric biometric credit card solution is without a doubt without peers in the world of biometric cards. Years of research and development with a clear objective of creating a best in class biometric card solution with a user centric focus has given SmartMetric an unbelievable new credit card category product. As guidance, SmartMetric is expecting its latest biometric card will be completed manufacturing within the next 4 to 8 weeks. That includes component assembly, card lamination and delivery. Changes to the products componentry has had to be made due to supply chain chip issues. These issues have now been overcome and there is now no impediment to the manufacture of the SmartMetric biometric card product. Announcement • Nov 15

SmartMetric, Inc. Develops Powerful Energy Harvesting to Provide Additional Power Options to Its Powered Use Anywhere Biometric Credit Card Building on its unique hybrid solid state battery and rapid recharge internal to the card, power management system, SmartMetric, Inc. has successfully added to its card power system powerful energy harvesting technology. This technology harvests electrical energy emitted from instore contactless card readers used for contactless payments and converts this electrical energy into power that powers the card's internal processor used for the biometric fingerprint reading of the card user's fingerprint. Holding the card within close proximity to the contactless card reader sends radio waves that are converted into an electrical field that is then used to power the instant fingerprint reading of the card holder. Simply speaking, the user simply holds the finger on the card's biometric fingerprint sensor while they hold it over the instore contactless reader which in turn provides the power to the card to perform an instant fingerprint verification that unlocks the card. This radio wave energy harvesting, while being an exciting innovation, does have its limitations. The power harvesting from the radio waves emitted from a card reader are not standardized, which poses electrical engineering issues in calibrating power absorption in relation to the power available from the source card reader radio emissions. Another issue is that the actual power that is able to be absorbed into biometric card is affected by the time the card is held over the reader. So, a calculation between card reader power emission by the time the card is held in close proximity of the power field comes into calibrating the actual power provided to the SmartMetric biometric card. Add to these variables, another calculation needs to be taken into account which is the distance the card user holds the card in proximity to the card reader. Functional experience is that the company is able to power biometric card from the radio waves emitted from a contactless reader. However, because of the variables involved, it may not work in all contactless readers. The other functional limitation is that such energy harvesting can only be converted into enough electric power to provide power for one transaction. It can not harvest enough power to allow for storage into the card’s hybrid solid state battery. While the company is excited about power harvesting that the company has been able to achieve, it does have its real-life limitations. Most of the world’s ATMs are not contactless enabled so relying on energy harvesting in this situation would not work. Not all retail stores have contactless card readers at this point in time. Then, because of the functional variables, will have a number or contactless card reading situations where power harvesting just simply won’t work. The SmartMetric biometric credit/debit card has engineered into the card three power sources. A miniature hybrid solid state battery, a power feed from contact readers when the card is inserted into a contact store reader, or a regular ATM and the contactless energy harvesting from contactless card readers. Having the internal hybrid solid state power storage inside the card allows the card to scan the card user's fingerprint prior to it being inserted into a card reader, allowing the card to function across all card reading types - contact, contactless or even readers such as found at gas pumps and ATMs. The SmartMetric card uses an almost paper-thin hybrid solid state battery connected to an advanced rapid charge power management system inside the card that allows the card to scan and match a person’s fingerprint biometrics before the card is inserted inside an instore card reader, ATM or Gas Pump reader, making it the first and only biometric card solution that will work across all of these credit/debit card reading devices, in the world. SmartMetric, Inc. Launches the SmartMetric Biometric Credit Card SmartMetric, Inc. announced that unlike standard credit and debit cards that rely on the questionable safety of PIN numbers and CVV codes for user validation, the SmartMetric biometric credit card solution provides 100% card user validation immediately before the card is inserted into a credit card retail reader or ATM. In other words, the credit or debit card chip and/or the card's internal RFID used for NFC contactless payments will not work without first the card user's fingerprint being successfully matched against their fingerprint that is already stored inside the card. At no time does the user's fingerprint leave the safety of the card. The SmartMetric biometric card does not store the user’s fingerprint on a centralized computer. Rather, the user’s fingerprint is safely stored inside the SmartMetric card protected behind a highly encrypted firewall. When a card holder first receives their card it is a simple process for them to store their fingerprint inside the card. Much the same as when a person receives a smartphone and they touch the screen of the phone 3 or 4 times to have their fingerprint registered and stored inside the phone, so too with the SmartMetric biometric card. All the card holder needs to do is touch the card's fingerprint sensor 3 to 4 times and the user's fingerprint will be permanently stored inside the credit or debit card. The ease of use and in particular the ease of storing a first time card user's fingerprint is highly important in credit card markets such as the United States. The largest credit card issuing Banks in the USA distribute their credit cards to new card holders via the mail. One method of inserting the card user's fingerprint into a card is to have them come into a bank branch and use a specialized fingerprint reader that copies the person's fingerprint and then stores it inside the new card. For most large scale credit card issuers this is not efficient and in the case of some not even possible given their limited branch footprint. After the card holder's fingerprint is stored inside the card, all the card user needs to do is touch the fingerprint sensor on the surface. In less time than it takes to reach across to insert the card into a credit or debit card reader, the card has scanned the user’s fingerprint and matched it with the pre-stored fingerprint inside the card. On a successful fingerprint match, the cards is turned on so that it can perform a card transaction. The ease of use of the SmartMetric biometric card, along with the fact that it is powered by the SmartMetric internal green battery prior to the card being inserted into a reader to power the internal processor doing the fingerprint scan, means the SmartMetric biometric card is the only card that can work across all card reader types and situations. Biometric cards that do not have an internal independent power supply are very limited on where such cards can be used. A big advantage for both credit card users as well as banks in fighting card fraud is the fact that the SmartMetric biometric card can not be activated if someone else is trying to use the card. SmartMetric, Inc. Announces Development of Combined Multi Function Contact and Contactless Biometric Fingerprint Activated Credit Card that Uses Energy Harvesting as well as Internal Solid-State Battery SmartMetric, Inc. announced that it has developed a biometric activated credit/debit card that uses the card holders’ fingerprint to turn on the card prior to insertion of the card into a card reader or ATM. The cards payment chip will not function in a standard contact or contactless credit card reader or ATM without the cardholder’s fingerprint first being scanned and matched. The user’s fingerprint is prestored inside the card and the cards internal fingerprint scanner is used to scan and match the user’s fingerprint in order to activate the credit or debit card. The scan and match of the card users fingerprint takes less than a quarter of a second. The biometric scan is frictionless as it takes less time than it takes to reach across to insert the card into a reader. Credit and debit cards that are used in the standard credit card reader where the user puts the credit card into a physical slot on the card reader is called a contact card. A credit and debit card that isn’t inserted into a card reader but rather is held over the top of the reader is called a contactless card. This operates on an RFID emission from the reader that reads an internal RFID chip sitting inside the card. Cards that have both contact function as well as the non-contact function are called dual interface cards. SmartMetric has created a dual interface biometric fingerprint activated dual interface card that can be easily use across all credit and debit card reader types. Further the SmartMetric dual interface biometric card allows for multi sourced power and power recharging. When being used contactless by bringing the card into the proximity of a contactless card reader then the SmartMetric card harvests power from the RFID electronic field being emitted from the card reader. This energy is used to power the cards internal processor used to perform the rapid sub one second biometric fingerprint match. Importantly not only is the card powered through this wireless energy emission but excess power is harvested wirelessly to recharge the cards internal battery. In the case of the card being inserted into a standard credit/debit card reader or ATM the SmartMetric card is able to draw power directly from the card reader providing a rapid recharge of the cards internal battery. The cards internal battery is used to power a fingerprint scan by the card prior to its insertion into the card reader or ATM. Announcement • May 05

Smartmetric Announces a Biometric Credit Card with on the Card Fingerprint Recognition SmartMetric, Inc. in order to combat the ever-increasing battle against credit card fraud SmartMetric embarked on developing a safer and more secure credit card that has built inside of it real time instant user biometric fingerprint recognition. The credit card's surface mounted chip is only able to work following an exact match of the card user's fingerprint that has been prestored inside of the credit card. This means the card's transaction chip is unable to function and complete a transaction if there is no biometric fingerprint match with the card user. This takes credit card security to the next level beyond the less secure PIN number that is used on credit and debit cards. Using biometric technology built into the card is a giant leap forward in credit and debit card security. What sets the SmartMetric biometric card solution apart from the one or two biometric card companies trying to mimic the SmartMetric biometric credit card is that the SmartMetric card is designed with its own internal power source. This enables the card to function and perform the fingerprint scan prior to the card being inserted into a reader. Allowing the card to be used at regular ATMs and in situations where the card is used in places like a restaurant where the card is taken away from the dining table to be processed. With the SmartMetric power inside the card solution the user simply touches the card's fingerprint sensor on the card's surface, hands the card to the waiter or waitress who then in turn takes it across to the card processing station to complete the credit card transaction. When activated by the card holder at their table the card stays on and able to work for up to 10 minutes giving enough time for the card to be processed by the restaurant. The same for a user at an ATM. Touching the card's sensor prior to inserting it into the ATM the card is instantly activated and is able to work in any standard ATM. The internal power source inside the SmartMetric biometric card is connected to an internal power management system that draws power from the card reader when it is inserted inside the reader that rapidly tops up the charge inside the card. The development of power management system along with its rapid power charging capability has taken many years of R&D according to SmartMetric. The SmartMetric advanced miniature power system is at the core of the card's biometric scan being able to be used prior to the card being inserted into a credit card reader. SmartMetric realized some years ago that for a biometric card to be adopted by major card issuing banks and the general public alike, the card needed to be able to operate in all situations that a card is presently used. SmartMetric’s President said creating and perfecting a power management system that sits inside the card, thereby allowing the card to be used at all ATMs, restaurants and all other places people use their cards, was an objective that SmartMetric would not compromise on. In fact, bringing to market a card that limited were it could be used would not be realistic in most credit card using markets. Because the SmartMetric biometric card allows the card to be used in all real-life situations and isn’t bound to being held by the user while a transaction is taking place, SmartMetric confidently believes that its biometric card solution is truly the most advanced and leading biometric card product in the world and the only truly practical biometric card solution for consumers and Banks alike. Smartmetric, Inc. Announces Biometric Fingerprint Secured and Activated Contact and Contactless Credit/Debit Cards Are Ready to Ship SmartMetric, Inc. announced that its biometric fingerprint secured and activated contact and contactless credit/debit cards are ready to ship to its partners in Europe at the end of the COVID-19 lock down. Securing contactless credit and debit cards with a person’s biometrics is a game changer in the contactless payments card world according to SmartMetric. Allowing card issuing banks to now provide a totally secure contactless card product that can only be used by the real card holder. This dramatically changes the risk for card issuers who have had to have low transaction limits on contactless cards due to the ease of use by fraudsters who have acquired a lost of stolen card. It has taken a great deal of engineering and time to perfect its contactless card technology inside the card whereby the card's contactless radio transmission is only activated to work with a contactless card reader following the card holders positive fingerprint scan. The biometric credit card holders’ fingerprint is stored inside the card and by simply touching a sensor on the card's surface, in less than a quarter of a second the users’ fingerprint is scanned, matched and then and only then will the card work in a contact or contactless card reader or ATM. The other major advantage of the SmartMetric biometric card technology is that it is self-powered. That means that the card does not have to be inserted into a card reader for it to work. This feature allows the SmartMetric card to be used at all card payment situations including in restaurants that take the card to the checkout to process the payment. SmartMetric is preparing to have its card presented to card issuing banks around the world with an EMV Chip that will seamlessly operate with the Bank's existing backend systems, card readers and ATM’s as soon as the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted in the United States and Europe.
