Insider Sellers Might Regret Selling Olema Pharmaceuticals Shares at a Lower Price Than Current Market Value

Even though Olema Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:OLMA) has fallen by 11% over the past week , insiders who sold US$1.6m worth of stock over the past year have had less luck. Given that the average selling price of US$14.40 is still lower than the current share price, insiders would probably have been better off keeping their shares.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Olema Pharmaceuticals Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the President, Sean Bohen, sold US$824k worth of shares at a price of US$15.29 per share. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (US$10.41). So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Insider Ownership Of Olema Pharmaceuticals

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Olema Pharmaceuticals insiders own about US$33m worth of shares. That equates to 5.2% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
