Here's Why We're Not Too Worried About Estrella Immunopharma's (NASDAQ:ESLA) Cash Burn Situation
Just because a business does not make any money, does not mean that the stock will go down. For example, although Amazon.com made losses for many years after listing, if you had bought and held the shares since 1999, you would have made a fortune. But while history lauds those rare successes, those that fail are often forgotten; who remembers Pets.com?
So should Estrella Immunopharma (NASDAQ:ESLA) shareholders be worried about its cash burn? In this report, we will consider the company's annual negative free cash flow, henceforth referring to it as the 'cash burn'. Let's start with an examination of the business' cash, relative to its cash burn.
How Long Is Estrella Immunopharma's Cash Runway?
A company's cash runway is the amount of time it would take to burn through its cash reserves at its current cash burn rate. When Estrella Immunopharma last reported its September 2025 balance sheet in November 2025, it had zero debt and cash worth US$1.6m. Looking at the last year, the company burnt through US$1.1m. Therefore, from September 2025 it had roughly 18 months of cash runway. While that cash runway isn't too concerning, sensible holders would be peering into the distance, and considering what happens if the company runs out of cash. The image below shows how its cash balance has been changing over the last few years.

How Is Estrella Immunopharma's Cash Burn Changing Over Time?
Because Estrella Immunopharma isn't currently generating revenue, we consider it an early-stage business. So while we can't look to sales to understand growth, we can look at how the cash burn is changing to understand how expenditure is trending over time. From a cash flow perspective, it's great to see the company's cash burn dropped by 94% over the last year. While that hardly points to growth potential, it does at least suggest the company is trying to survive. While the past is always worth studying, it is the future that matters most of all. For that reason, it makes a lot of sense to take a look at our analyst forecasts for the company.
Can Estrella Immunopharma Raise More Cash Easily?
While we're comforted by the recent reduction evident from our analysis of Estrella Immunopharma's cash burn, it is still worth considering how easily the company could raise more funds, if it wanted to accelerate spending to drive growth. Companies can raise capital through either debt or equity. One of the main advantages held by publicly listed companies is that they can sell shares to investors to raise cash and fund growth. We can compare a company's cash burn to its market capitalisation to get a sense for how many new shares a company would have to issue to fund one year's operations.
Since it has a market capitalisation of US$80m, Estrella Immunopharma's US$1.1m in cash burn equates to about 1.4% of its market value. So it could almost certainly just borrow a little to fund another year's growth, or else easily raise the cash by issuing a few shares.
Is Estrella Immunopharma's Cash Burn A Worry?
It may already be apparent to you that we're relatively comfortable with the way Estrella Immunopharma is burning through its cash. For example, we think its cash burn reduction suggests that the company is on a good path. On this analysis its cash runway was its weakest feature, but we are not concerned about it. Based on the factors mentioned in this article, we think its cash burn situation warrants some attention from shareholders, but we don't think they should be worried. On another note, we conducted an in-depth investigation of the company, and identified 5 warning signs for Estrella Immunopharma (3 shouldn't be ignored!) that you should be aware of before investing here.
