Insiders Could Have Profited By Holding onto Candel Therapeutics Shares Despite 10% Drop

Published
NasdaqGM:CADL

Despite the fact that Candel Therapeutics, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:CADL) value has dropped 10% in the last week insiders who sold US$1.3m worth of stock in the past 12 months have had less success. Insiders would probably have been better off holding on to their shares given that the average selling price of US$6.29 is still lower than the current share price.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Candel Therapeutics

The insider, Laura Aguilar, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$244k worth of shares at a price of US$6.05 each. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$4.65. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

In the last year Candel Therapeutics insiders didn't buy any company stock. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership Of Candel Therapeutics

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Insiders own 14% of Candel Therapeutics shares, worth about US$21m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
