Getty Images Holdings, Inc.'s (NYSE:GETY) 27% Dip Still Leaving Some Shareholders Feeling Restless Over Its P/SRatio

Getty Images Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:GETY) shareholders won't be pleased to see that the share price has had a very rough month, dropping 27% and undoing the prior period's positive performance. The drop over the last 30 days has capped off a tough year for shareholders, with the share price down 41% in that time.

Although its price has dipped substantially, there still wouldn't be many who think Getty Images Holdings' price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.3x is worth a mention when the median P/S in the United States' Interactive Media and Services industry is similar at about 1.2x. However, investors might be overlooking a clear opportunity or potential setback if there is no rational basis for the P/S.

How Getty Images Holdings Has Been Performing

Getty Images Holdings hasn't been tracking well recently as its declining revenue compares poorly to other companies, which have seen some growth in their revenues on average. Perhaps the market is expecting its poor revenue performance to improve, keeping the P/S from dropping. You'd really hope so, otherwise you're paying a relatively elevated price for a company with this sort of growth profile.

Keen to find out how analysts think Getty Images Holdings' future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The P/S Ratio?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Getty Images Holdings would need to produce growth that's similar to the industry.

If we review the last year of revenue, the company posted a result that saw barely any deviation from a year ago. Likewise, not much has changed from three years ago as revenue have been stuck during that whole time. So it seems apparent to us that the company has struggled to grow revenue meaningfully over that time.

Looking ahead now, revenue is anticipated to climb by 3.9% during the coming year according to the five analysts following the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to expand by 13%, which is noticeably more attractive.

With this information, we find it interesting that Getty Images Holdings is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. It seems most investors are ignoring the fairly limited growth expectations and are willing to pay up for exposure to the stock. Maintaining these prices will be difficult to achieve as this level of revenue growth is likely to weigh down the shares eventually.

What Does Getty Images Holdings' P/S Mean For Investors?

Following Getty Images Holdings' share price tumble, its P/S is just clinging on to the industry median P/S. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

Our look at the analysts forecasts of Getty Images Holdings' revenue prospects has shown that its inferior revenue outlook isn't negatively impacting its P/S as much as we would have predicted. At present, we aren't confident in the P/S as the predicted future revenues aren't likely to support a more positive sentiment for long. Circumstances like this present a risk to current and prospective investors who may see share prices fall if the low revenue growth impacts the sentiment.

We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 3 warning signs for Getty Images Holdings (1 is a bit unpleasant!) that you need to be mindful of.
