Insiders Of Flotek Industries Reap Rewards After Their Investment Jumps Another US$717k

Last week, Flotek Industries, Inc. (NYSE:FTK) insiders, who had purchased shares in the previous 12 months were rewarded handsomely. The shares increased by 15% last week, resulting in a US$66m increase in the company's market worth, implying a 39% gain on their initial purchase. In other words, the original US$1.84m purchase is now worth US$2.56m.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Flotek Industries Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Director Matthew Wilks bought US$1.7m worth of shares at a price of US$12.25 per share. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of US$17.08. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Does Flotek Industries Boast High Insider Ownership?

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 2.9% of Flotek Industries shares, worth about US$14m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
