Looking at Church & Dwight Co., Inc.'s (NYSE:CHD ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net sellers. That is, there were more number of shares sold by insiders than there were purchased.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Church & Dwight
The Lead Independent Director, Ravichandra Saligram, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$2.2m worth of shares at a price of US$108 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$102. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Ravichandra Saligram.

Insider Ownership
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Church & Dwight insiders own about US$45m worth of shares. That equates to 0.2% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
