Last week, Vivani Medical, Inc. (NASDAQ:VANI) insiders, who had purchased shares in the previous 12 months were rewarded handsomely. The shares increased by 11% last week, resulting in a US$6.6m increase in the company's market worth, implying a 31% gain on their initial purchase. As a result, their original purchase of US$351.5k worth of stock is now worth US$460.3k.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Vivani Medical

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Chairman of the Board Gregg Williams for US$135k worth of shares, at about US$0.88 per share. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of US$1.24. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.

Insider Ownership Of Vivani Medical

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
