SKYY: Cloud Investing Made Simple With One ETF

Summary The First Trust Cloud Computing ETF uses a unique score-based system for stock selection, emphasizing operational presence in cloud segments over market cap. SKYY has delivered strong long-term returns, outperforming peer cloud ETFs since 2019, but exhibits high volatility and lacks dividend payouts. The ETF underperforms broader tech benchmarks like QQQ and offers little to no exposure to leading AI stocks such as NVDA and AMD. SKYY suits investors bullish on cloud growth and seeking momentum, but its steep valuation and volatility may deter risk-averse or income-focused investors. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha

SKYY: Cloud Computing Isn't Going Away

Summary SKYY has better performance and higher standard deviation than its competitors, but in my view, a well-balanced allocation of holdings. Pessimism prevails as the SKYY ETF plunges nearly 20% from its highs. The ETF price returns to the 200-day moving average, indicating a potential bottom zone. RSI and volume analysis seem to confirm. SKYY appears to have a negative ERP overall, similar to the tech sector, making a strong ETF recovery fundamentally unlikely. The same applies to the forward earnings yield: while it is a relatively new phenomenon in recent decades, it is not unprecedented. In my view, demand for U.S. equities could overlook this factor. SKYY: Hard To Ignore, But Overvalued

Summary First Trust Cloud Computing ETF offers exposure to cloud computing, with significant gains but high valuation metrics and volatility, leading to a "hold" rating. SKYY's portfolio includes major players like Amazon, Alphabet, and Microsoft, but its equal weighting limits the impact of these "blue chips." The cloud computing industry is expected to grow at a 20.3% CAGR until 2030, with SaaS dominating and IaaS growing fastest. High valuation metrics and no dividend, coupled with industry risk and volatility, make SKYY a cautious investment despite its potential. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha

SKYY: Back Down To Earth We Come, Unlikely To Buck Tech Weakness

Summary The cloud computing industry saw a dip in late 2021 to early 2023, but stocks and ETFs recovered well. But now, the risk is too high for me. SKYY ETF invests in companies involved in cloud computing, including top players like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. Cloud computing offers benefits like cost savings, scalability, and remote access, but also presents security challenges and internet dependency. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha

SKYY: Long-Term Prospects Remain Unchanged

While the long-term picture is still intact for cloud stocks, I believe the current macro environment has reshuffled some of the priorities for many investors. Rising rates coupled with the risk of a potential recession made investors more aware of the dangers of holding expensive stocks. Investors are in no rush to buy the dips since I don't expect a bottom in SKYY over the next couple of weeks.

SKYY: Betting On The Future Of Cloud Computing

The global cloud computing market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 16.3% until 2026, which is much higher than the forecasted US GDP growth rate over this period. SKYY is a great tool to get exposure to this trend. This is a cost-effective and well-diversified ETF. In my opinion, the recent pullback provides an entry point, and if SKYY goes lower, it is an opportunity to accumulate at lower prices and build a position around it.

SKYY: A Space Odyssey

I had assigned a bullish rating to the First Trust Cloud Computing ETF in August 2020 when it was hovering around $78. The ETF has appreciated 35% since then. I am still bullish on its prospects because cloud technology is evolving fast, and cloud adoption is increasing. The ETF, which underperformed two of its peers till July 2020, has caught up and matched one peer’s price performance and outperformed the other.
