Ryvyl Inc. (NASDAQ:RVYL) Stock Rockets 37% But Many Are Still Ignoring The Company
Ryvyl Inc. (NASDAQ:RVYL) shareholders have had their patience rewarded with a 37% share price jump in the last month. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 39% over that time.
Although its price has surged higher, Ryvyl may still be sending very bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.4x, since almost half of all companies in the Diversified Financial industry in the United States have P/S ratios greater than 2.5x and even P/S higher than 5x are not unusual. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so limited.

How Has Ryvyl Performed Recently?
Ryvyl certainly has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing revenue more than most other companies. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to dive, which has kept the P/S suppressed. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

Ryvyl's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver very poor growth or even falling revenue, and importantly, perform much worse than the industry.
Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 89% last year. Although, its longer-term performance hasn't been as strong with three-year revenue growth being relatively non-existent overall. Therefore, it's fair to say that revenue growth has been inconsistent recently for the company.
Shifting to the future, estimates from the only analyst covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 38% over the next year. That's shaping up to be materially higher than the 1.6% growth forecast for the broader industry.
With this information, we find it odd that Ryvyl is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Apparently some shareholders are doubtful of the forecasts and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.
What We Can Learn From Ryvyl's P/S?
Shares in Ryvyl have risen appreciably however, its P/S is still subdued. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.
To us, it seems Ryvyl currently trades on a significantly depressed P/S given its forecasted revenue growth is higher than the rest of its industry. There could be some major risk factors that are placing downward pressure on the P/S ratio. While the possibility of the share price plunging seems unlikely due to the high growth forecasted for the company, the market does appear to have some hesitation.
And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 5 warning signs for Ryvyl (of which 2 are potentially serious!) you should know about.
