XWELL, Inc. (NASDAQ:XWEL) Looks Inexpensive After Falling 25% But Perhaps Not Attractive Enough
XWELL, Inc. (NASDAQ:XWEL) shares have had a horrible month, losing 25% after a relatively good period beforehand. The drop over the last 30 days has capped off a tough year for shareholders, with the share price down 39% in that time.
Following the heavy fall in price, when close to half the companies operating in the United States' Consumer Services industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") above 1.3x, you may consider XWELL as an enticing stock to check out with its 0.2x P/S ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

What Does XWELL's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
XWELL has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing revenue at a solid pace. It might be that many expect the respectable revenue performance to degrade substantially, which has repressed the P/S. Those who are bullish on XWELL will be hoping that this isn't the case, so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.

In order to justify its P/S ratio, XWELL would need to produce sluggish growth that's trailing the industry.
Taking a look back first, we see that the company managed to grow revenues by a handy 12% last year. Ultimately though, it couldn't turn around the poor performance of the prior period, with revenue shrinking 24% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been undesirable for the company.
In contrast to the company, the rest of the industry is expected to grow by 13% over the next year, which really puts the company's recent medium-term revenue decline into perspective.
In light of this, it's understandable that XWELL's P/S would sit below the majority of other companies. However, we think shrinking revenues are unlikely to lead to a stable P/S over the longer term, which could set up shareholders for future disappointment. There's potential for the P/S to fall to even lower levels if the company doesn't improve its top-line growth.
What Does XWELL's P/S Mean For Investors?
XWELL's P/S has taken a dip along with its share price. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.
It's no surprise that XWELL maintains its low P/S off the back of its sliding revenue over the medium-term. Right now shareholders are accepting the low P/S as they concede future revenue probably won't provide any pleasant surprises either. If recent medium-term revenue trends continue, it's hard to see the share price moving strongly in either direction in the near future under these circumstances.
We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 2 warning signs for XWELL (1 is potentially serious!) that you need to be mindful of.
