Revenues Working Against Sabre Corporation's (NASDAQ:SABR) Share Price Following 26% Dive

Sabre Corporation (NASDAQ:SABR) shareholders won't be pleased to see that the share price has had a very rough month, dropping 26% and undoing the prior period's positive performance. For any long-term shareholders, the last month ends a year to forget by locking in a 58% share price decline.

Since its price has dipped substantially, Sabre may be sending bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.2x, since almost half of all companies in the Hospitality industry in the United States have P/S ratios greater than 1.6x and even P/S higher than 4x are not unusual. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the reduced P/S.

How Has Sabre Performed Recently?

Recent times haven't been great for Sabre as its revenue has been rising slower than most other companies. It seems that many are expecting the uninspiring revenue performance to persist, which has repressed the growth of the P/S ratio. If you still like the company, you'd be hoping revenue doesn't get any worse and that you could pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

Keen to find out how analysts think Sabre's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

Is There Any Revenue Growth Forecasted For Sabre?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Sabre would need to produce sluggish growth that's trailing the industry.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered a decent 8.9% gain to the company's revenues. The latest three year period has also seen a 26% overall rise in revenue, aided somewhat by its short-term performance. Accordingly, shareholders would have probably been satisfied with the medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the seven analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 0.3% per year over the next three years. With the industry predicted to deliver 14% growth each year, the company is positioned for a weaker revenue result.

In light of this, it's understandable that Sabre's P/S sits below the majority of other companies. It seems most investors are expecting to see limited future growth and are only willing to pay a reduced amount for the stock.

The Key Takeaway

The southerly movements of Sabre's shares means its P/S is now sitting at a pretty low level. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.

As expected, our analysis of Sabre's analyst forecasts confirms that the company's underwhelming revenue outlook is a major contributor to its low P/S. Shareholders' pessimism on the revenue prospects for the company seems to be the main contributor to the depressed P/S. It's hard to see the share price rising strongly in the near future under these circumstances.
