It's Down 33% But JIADE Limited (NASDAQ:JDZG) Could Be Riskier Than It Looks
To the annoyance of some shareholders, JIADE Limited (NASDAQ:JDZG) shares are down a considerable 33% in the last month, which continues a horrid run for the company. For any long-term shareholders, the last month ends a year to forget by locking in a 51% share price decline.
Although its price has dipped substantially, given about half the companies in the United States have price-to-earnings ratios (or "P/E's") above 19x, you may still consider JIADE as a highly attractive investment with its 7.7x P/E ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/E at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so limited.
For instance, JIADE's receding earnings in recent times would have to be some food for thought. It might be that many expect the disappointing earnings performance to continue or accelerate, which has repressed the P/E. However, if this doesn't eventuate then existing shareholders may be feeling optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

What Are Growth Metrics Telling Us About The Low P/E?
In order to justify its P/E ratio, JIADE would need to produce anemic growth that's substantially trailing the market.
Taking a look back first, the company's earnings per share growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 46%. Even so, admirably EPS has lifted 1,195% in aggregate from three years ago, notwithstanding the last 12 months. So we can start by confirming that the company has generally done a very good job of growing earnings over that time, even though it had some hiccups along the way.
This is in contrast to the rest of the market, which is expected to grow by 15% over the next year, materially lower than the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.
With this information, we find it odd that JIADE is trading at a P/E lower than the market. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance has exceeded its limits and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.
The Bottom Line On JIADE's P/E
Shares in JIADE have plummeted and its P/E is now low enough to touch the ground. We'd say the price-to-earnings ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.
Our examination of JIADE revealed its three-year earnings trends aren't contributing to its P/E anywhere near as much as we would have predicted, given they look better than current market expectations. There could be some major unobserved threats to earnings preventing the P/E ratio from matching this positive performance. It appears many are indeed anticipating earnings instability, because the persistence of these recent medium-term conditions would normally provide a boost to the share price.
