Insiders Sold GoPro At US$1.28, Meanwhile Stock Sits Near US$0.89
GoPro, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:GPRO) stock price has dropped 14% in the previous week, but insiders who sold US$359k in stock over the past year have had less luck. Insiders might have been better off holding onto their shares, given that the average selling price of US$1.28 is still below the current share price.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

GoPro Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Independent Director, Alexander Lurie, for US$359k worth of shares, at about US$1.35 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$0.89. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. Alexander Lurie was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Insiders At GoPro Have Sold Stock Recently
The last quarter saw substantial insider selling of GoPro shares. In total, Independent Director Alexander Lurie dumped US$359k worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. Overall this makes us a bit cautious, but it's not the be all and end all.
Insider Ownership Of GoPro
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. GoPro insiders own about US$27m worth of shares. That equates to 18% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
What Might The Insider Transactions At GoPro Tell Us?
An insider sold GoPro shares recently, but they didn't buy any. And there weren't any purchases to give us comfort, over the last year. While insiders do own shares, they don't own a heap, and they have been selling. So we'd only buy after careful consideration. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing. While conducting our analysis, we found that GoPro has 2 warning signs and it would be unwise to ignore these.
