Scientech's (TWSE:3583) Shareholders Will Receive A Bigger Dividend Than Last Year
Scientech Corporation (TWSE:3583) will increase its dividend on the 25th of July to NT$4.00, which is 11% higher than last year's payment from the same period of NT$3.60. Despite this raise, the dividend yield of 1.3% is only a modest boost to shareholder returns.

Scientech's Payment Has Solid Earnings Coverage
Even a low dividend yield can be attractive if it is sustained for years on end. The last dividend was quite easily covered by Scientech's earnings. This means that a large portion of its earnings are being retained to grow the business.
Over the next year, EPS could expand by 9.2% if recent trends continue. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 51% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.
Dividend Volatility
Although the company has a long dividend history, it has been cut at least once in the last 10 years. Since 2014, the dividend has gone from NT$1.50 total annually to NT$3.60. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 9.1% over that duration. We like to see dividends have grown at a reasonable rate, but with at least one substantial cut in the payments, we're not certain this dividend stock would be ideal for someone intending to live on the income.
Scientech Could Grow Its Dividend
Given that the dividend has been cut in the past, we need to check if earnings are growing and if that might lead to stronger dividends in the future. We are encouraged to see that Scientech has grown earnings per share at 9.2% per year over the past five years. Shareholders are getting plenty of the earnings returned to them, which combined with strong growth makes this quite appealing.
Scientech Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that Scientech is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company.
