Scientech (TWSE:3583) Is Increasing Its Dividend To NT$4.50
Scientech Corporation (TWSE:3583) will increase its dividend on the 25th of July to NT$4.50, which is 13% higher than last year's payment from the same period of NT$4.00. Although the dividend is now higher, the yield is only 1.2%, which is below the industry average.

Scientech's Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions
The dividend yield is a little bit low, but sustainability of the payments is also an important part of evaluating an income stock. However, prior to this announcement, Scientech's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. This means that most of what the business earns is being used to help it grow.
Analysts expect a massive rise in earnings per share in the next year. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio will be 13%, which makes us pretty comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.
Dividend Volatility
While the company has been paying a dividend for a long time, it has cut the dividend at least once in the last 10 years. Since 2015, the annual payment back then was NT$3.00, compared to the most recent full-year payment of NT$4.00. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 2.9% per annum over that time. It's encouraging to see some dividend growth, but the dividend has been cut at least once, and the size of the cut would eliminate most of the growth anyway, which makes this less attractive as an income investment.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Growing earnings per share could be a mitigating factor when considering the past fluctuations in the dividend. We are encouraged to see that Scientech has grown earnings per share at 13% per year over the past five years. A low payout ratio and decent growth suggests that the company is reinvesting well, and it also has plenty of room to increase the dividend over time.
We Really Like Scientech's Dividend
Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that Scientech is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.
Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one.
