Yufo Electronics Co., Ltd. (GTSM:6194) On An Uptrend: Could Fundamentals Be Driving The Stock?
Most readers would already know that Yufo Electronics' (GTSM:6194) stock increased by 4.4% over the past week. Given that stock prices are usually aligned with a company's financial performance in the long-term, we decided to investigate if the company's decent financials had a hand to play in the recent price move. Particularly, we will be paying attention to Yufo Electronics' ROE today.
Return on Equity or ROE is a test of how effectively a company is growing its value and managing investors’ money. In other words, it is a profitability ratio which measures the rate of return on the capital provided by the company's shareholders.

How Do You Calculate Return On Equity?
ROE can be calculated by using the formula:
Return on Equity = Net Profit (from continuing operations) ÷ Shareholders' Equity
So, based on the above formula, the ROE for Yufo Electronics is:
7.7% = NT$138m ÷ NT$1.8b (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2020).
The 'return' is the amount earned after tax over the last twelve months. So, this means that for every NT$1 of its shareholder's investments, the company generates a profit of NT$0.08.
What Is The Relationship Between ROE And Earnings Growth?
We have already established that ROE serves as an efficient profit-generating gauge for a company's future earnings. Depending on how much of these profits the company reinvests or "retains", and how effectively it does so, we are then able to assess a company’s earnings growth potential. Assuming everything else remains unchanged, the higher the ROE and profit retention, the higher the growth rate of a company compared to companies that don't necessarily bear these characteristics.
A Side By Side comparison of Yufo Electronics' Earnings Growth And 7.7% ROE
At first glance, Yufo Electronics' ROE doesn't look very promising. We then compared the company's ROE to the broader industry and were disappointed to see that the ROE is lower than the industry average of 9.9%. However, we we're pleasantly surprised to see that Yufo Electronics grew its net income at a significant rate of 65% in the last five years. We reckon that there could be other factors at play here. Such as - high earnings retention or an efficient management in place.
Next, on comparing with the industry net income growth, we found that Yufo Electronics' growth is quite high when compared to the industry average growth of 9.2% in the same period, which is great to see.
Earnings growth is a huge factor in stock valuation. What investors need to determine next is if the expected earnings growth, or the lack of it, is already built into the share price. By doing so, they will have an idea if the stock is headed into clear blue waters or if swampy waters await. Is Yufo Electronics fairly valued compared to other companies? These 3 valuation measures might help you decide.
Is Yufo Electronics Using Its Retained Earnings Effectively?
The high three-year median payout ratio of 51% (implying that it keeps only 49% of profits) for Yufo Electronics suggests that the company's growth wasn't really hampered despite it returning most of the earnings to its shareholders.
Besides, Yufo Electronics has been paying dividends for at least ten years or more. This shows that the company is committed to sharing profits with its shareholders.
Summary
Overall, we feel that Yufo Electronics certainly does have some positive factors to consider. While no doubt its earnings growth is pretty substantial, we do feel that the reinvestment rate is pretty low, meaning, the earnings growth number could have been significantly higher had the company been retaining more of its profits. Up till now, we've only made a short study of the company's growth data.
