Is Speed Tech (GTSM:5457) The Next Multi-Bagger?
If we want to find a stock that could multiply over the long term, what are the underlying trends we should look for? In a perfect world, we'd like to see a company investing more capital into its business and ideally the returns earned from that capital are also increasing. Ultimately, this demonstrates that it's a business that is reinvesting profits at increasing rates of return. Speaking of which, we noticed some great changes in Speed Tech's (GTSM:5457) returns on capital, so let's have a look.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What is it?
Just to clarify if you're unsure, ROCE is a metric for evaluating how much pre-tax income (in percentage terms) a company earns on the capital invested in its business. The formula for this calculation on Speed Tech is:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.31 = NT$1.6b ÷ (NT$14b - NT$8.9b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2020).
Thus, Speed Tech has an ROCE of 31%. That's a fantastic return and not only that, it outpaces the average of 11% earned by companies in a similar industry.

How Are Returns Trending?
We like the trends that we're seeing from Speed Tech. The data shows that returns on capital have increased substantially over the last five years to 31%. The amount of capital employed has increased too, by 127%. This can indicate that there's plenty of opportunities to invest capital internally and at ever higher rates, a combination that's common among multi-baggers.
For the record though, there was a noticeable increase in the company's current liabilities over the period, so we would attribute some of the ROCE growth to that. Effectively this means that suppliers or short-term creditors are now funding 63% of the business, which is more than it was five years ago. And with current liabilities at those levels, that's pretty high.The Key Takeaway
All in all, it's terrific to see that Speed Tech is reaping the rewards from prior investments and is growing its capital base. And a remarkable 332% total return over the last five years tells us that investors are expecting more good things to come in the future. So given the stock has proven it has promising trends, it's worth researching the company further to see if these trends are likely to persist.
